Water will no longer be available throughout the Cemetery. Please note the new faucet locations: behind the Main Gate, at the Receiving Tomb garden, and along Yellowwood Avenue. We apologize for any inconvenience that this may cause you. Please also note that the faucet water is not fit for consumption.

Ching Ming

Forest Hills Cemetery warmly welcomes all families observing Ching Ming.

The date is indicated on the Chinese calendar with two characters: ching, meaning pure or clean, and ming, meaning brightness. Combined together, Ching Ming means clean and just. This date is also indicated on traditional Japanese calendars, where their culture has a similar observance. In Korean culture, the observance is known as Hansik.

Please note that when observing at Forest Hills, offerings will be removed daily and fires are acceptable in burning pots only.

Compassionate Friends Worldwide Candle Lighting Service

PLEASE NOTE: The Compassionate Friends event scheduled at Forest Hills Cemetery for Dec 9, 2012 has been CANCELLED.

Held annually the second Sunday in December, the Worldwide Candle Lighting unites family and friends who light candles for one hour to honor and remember children who have died at any age from any cause. As candles burn down in one time zone, they are then lit in the next, creating a virtual 24-hour wave of light as the observance continues around the world.

The Compassionate Friends has more than 630 chapters in the United States offering support to bereaved families after the death of a child.
